Pier Teardown

I saw in paper a photograph of how someone created a model of the pier out of chocolate and other candy.  Maybe they should rebuild the pier out of chocolate, I bet people would devour that idea.  It certainly would take a bite out of the local economy troubles.  Of course once the city council got their sticky hands on it...  you get the idea.

Parks

I was very happy to see that the county won't put a fee on any parks.   Good move as thousands of people enjoy our beautiful parks year round.

Heat Wave

I have been working new construction this summer and I have to tell its hot alright.  Even hotter in a new building with no ac.  Its so hot working in there that when I walk outside it seems cool.   I just drink lots of water to stay on top of it and not get into heat trouble.  October can't get here soon enough.  I'd like to go somewhere where's snow.  I'd strip down and lay in it.

Summer heat

Hot enough for you? Ha, ha.   Anybody say that to you lately or are you sick of people saying that to you by now?  I blame this all on Al Gore.  Ater he invented the internet he has to go and invent Gobal Warming.  Nice going Al I wish you would have stuck to technology and bypassed the environment.

Oil spills

I read with interest today an article in the Times about how many and how much oil has been leaking from wells in the Gulf since the 60's.   With 42,000 wells in the Gulf it sounds like there is a continous leak going on somewhere.  It should be apparent to even the most diehard oil apologists that big oil really does control the national government to the extent that whatever they want they get.   They obviously want the percariousness of the drilling hused up and that's what they got.   They control the congress and white house to the extend that this past week saw we saw where any new intiative to have an energy policy that is forward thinking and makes sense is now dead.

I keep thinking and fully believe any breakthru in alternative energy will come from some 'backyard' tinkerer who makes a discovery.  Lets hope when that happens the discovery gets out soon before big oil can sit on it.

Do Not Pay List

Its about time. After decades of sending goverment checks to dead citizens President Obama is finally doing something about it. Making a national do not pay list. About 20,000 seperate payments with a total of 182 million were sent to dead people in the last 3 years. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services made 65 billion (that's billion) in erroneous payments in fiscal year 2009.

There are other things on the do not pay list also like paying people who are in prison, etc.

Its about time someone did something about this absolute waste of my (read taxpayer) money. They (the crooks, I mean politicans) all pay lip service to curtailing fraud but nothing ever happens. Obama is the first president to actually do something real about it. You go O.

Its about time we (taxpayers)

Its about time we (taxpayers) stopped sending checks to dead people.  Now if we could only stop sending checks to congress that might get them to do something useful.

congress

I wonder if brain dead counts as dead.  If so there goes congress.

Congress dilutes financial reform

So the crooks in congress are still very much on the payroll of the big Wall Street finanical firms.  The financial regulation bill in front of them wanted to create a system where the financial firms actually had to have indepentant rating agencies rating thier financial instruments.

Of course the big financial firms didn't like that.  They want the status quo to prevail and that is they pay the rating agencies to rate their financial instruments.  That's was a large part of what caused the financial meltdown.  They payoff the rating agencies, they payoff congress to keep it that way and the consumer gets screwed as always.  Nice going again Congress, you always show who you are really looking out for.

The Pier

So the city can't figure out what to do with the pier. Here's my idea.  Tear it down.  Not all the way but get rid of the hiddeous building on the end of the pier.  Make the pier accessible by walking only.   Have a small concession/bait stand at the end with restrooms.   People could enjoy the pier by walking (gasp).  This would eliminate any expensive remake, the existing pier could easily be upgraded if the main use were foot traffic.

Then use the spa beach area to build a facility that could have restrurants, etc.  I think a small music amphitheater there would great too.

Energy

Lets hope that this terrible oil spill brings the need to have alternative energy sources into a sharp focus and we as a nation finally do something about it.  To that end Next Era Energy (FPL)has a 25 megawatt solar photovoltaic electric plant in DeSoto County, Florida the largest in the Country and a 75 megawatt solar thermal with natural gas backup in Martin County, Florida.  They also have a 735.5 megawatt wind farm in Horse Hollow, Texas.   Its a start but we need to do this all over the country.
